Another 10 PS5, PS4 Games Leave PS Plus Extra, Premium in August

I started Yakuza 0 a while back and it wasn't clicking with me. I still think the series is cool but I think I'm done with it.

I sold my copy of Borderlands 3 since it was on Extra, but this feels like another franchise I've had my fill of.

I feel like they just added Borderlands 3…? It’s only been on the service a couple months if I’m not mistaken. (Edit: yup, it was in Feb. So it lasted just 6 months) Weird. I was considering playing it, but never got around to it. Perhaps it’s about to show up as an Essential game soon. If not, I think I’ve seen copies of it out in the wild for like $10.

Also a little bummed about the Yakuza games but likewise they are available on the cheap if I ever got an inkling to try them.

The three worst Yakuza games imo.

This is why a subscription service with a rolling game cycle doesn't work for me. I like to leisurely play the games in my library. I don't want to feel like there's some deadline I need to beat in order to play, much less finish, a game.

Yakuza games in the past have gone on sale for $5 each for the older titles. But yeah another reason i prefer to buy a game and play at my leisure rather than feeling compelled to play something i might not even be in the mood for

That's why I don't like subscription services. Luckily I'm almost at the end of Borderlands 3. I was even thinking to buy the pass, but now it's a no.

@lacerz you're absolutely right, even the PS+ Essential games don't have this problem as they stay as long as your sub does, so they're effectively in your library.

I got a long free upgrade to Premium when these tiers started, but I've already realised I don't like the transient nature of the games on the higher tiers - I just can't get invested in playing them, and will definitely drop back to Essential when it expires.

Obligatory "This is why I don't like subscriptions" post that pop up every single time the games are leaving is announced. We get it, subscription services aren't for you.

I just started Yakuza 0 last night as my friend recommended the series. Guess I'll have to decide quick if I'm sticking with the rest of the games listed here.

Yakuza series is worth all the money you can throw at it. Highly recommend you grab them even if it’s in a sale cause they’re a big undertaking.

May have to try and get kiwami 2 done in a month hopefully its not as long as 0 as no chance I'll get it done!

Only completed Borderlands 3 fairly recently, so glad that is done before it was removed.

Ahhhh fartnuggets. First removal that affects me. I beat Yakuza 0 but took a break because I knew I'd want to play through all of them (and yakuza 0 is so addicting I played through everything), and now I need to drop what I'm doing to get through Kiwami (I have Kiwami 2, partially because of the ranked list pushsquare did a while ago)

It's the equivalent to everyone going out to eat burgers once a month and then every month you show up and say "I hate burgers!" and then leave. It's like...ok? Then don't eat the burgers?

No need to ever worry about them leaving a sub when you own every single physical Yakuza game released in the UK so I'm all good. Including both the original PS2 versions and physical remastered collection boxset for 3, 4 and 5. So lame the next game is apparently gonna be digital only

This is why I don't understand why people get excited for AAA third party games on this service. Most of the time you're never going to be able to finish them before they are taken off. My rule of thumb is it can't be any longer than 30hrs to be played off Extra unless it's a Sony 1st party game.

Does anyone else have this issue.

You download a game from the service but don’t finish it. Go to buy and can’t because PlayStation thinks you have already purchased. It’s driving me nuts and AskPlaystation on Twitter never reply

@LordOfTurnips sadly it always says purchased, so not allowed. I want to buy Mafia DE. But it won’t allow and only available digital, so screwed

@Th3solution aslong as you add it or any ps plus games to your library it's yours until /whenever you stop ps plus Extra or premium.

@Falkirk4life I don’t think that’s the case. I know Essential games are yours to keep as long as you’re subscribed, but you will lose access to Extra and Premium games when they leave the service, even if you’ve added them to your library and downloaded them. The console will do a PSN online check when you try to boot the game, and it will deny access unless you’ve purchased the game separately.

I could be wrong but I’m almost sure that’s the way those tiers work.

@Falkirk4life Nah, that's the big disadvantage - when the Extra/Premium games are rotated out, everyone who was playing via those subs loses access to them.

At least the Essential games are yours to keep so long as your sub is active.

@Th3solution Borderlands 3 is even featured in one of the current PS Stars tasks. Which has 22 days left, meaning the game will be leaving shortly after.

That's very bad for me, as I'm playing Yakuza 0, and will do a full playthrough of the series. Already finished 1 sometime ago. Just bought 2 as it's discounted. It's the nature of the business, but Borderlands 3 is surprising, as it came a few months ago.

Yakuza goes on sale regularly but I highly recommend anyone to play Yakuza 0 before it leaves in August.
